At a meeting at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (Lithuanian: Lietuvos Mokslų Akademija) on June 3, 1988 intellectuals formed an Initiative Group of the Lithuanian Reform Movement Sąjūdis. The group composed of 35 members, mostly prominent people and the young, surprisingly rapidly and successfully boosted Lithuania's rebirth.

Due to active and balanced activities, Sąjūdis gained great trust of the nation, together with the Popular Fronts in Latvia (Latvijas Tautas Fronte) and Estonia (Rahvarinne) led the three Baltic nations to the alive Baltic Way on August 23, 1989, won an overwhelming majority in the elections in Lithuania to the USSR People's Deputies Congress in 1989, compelled the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to declare the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact to be null and void.

On March 11, 1990 the deputies of Sąjūdis having won the elections to the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR peacefully restored independence of the Republic of Lithuania, which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Comment: The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is situated on Gedimino pr. 3, LT-01103 Vilnius. This FDC was sent from the Vilnius Region Main Post Office (Gedimino pr. 7, LT-01001 Vilnius). What an exactly locality FDC!
