Founded in 2001, the Boao Forum for Asia (Chinese: 博鳌亚洲论坛; Abbreviation: BFA) is a non-government, non-profit international organization. It has grown into a high-level forum for leaders in government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share visions on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. Since 2002, the Forum has been held annually in Boao, Hainan Province, and the BFA International Conference Center on the nearby Dongyu Island is the permanent site. As the Forum brings new opportunities to Hainan, the seaside city of Boao has served as a bridge linking Hainan with the world and become an epitome of Hainan's reform and opening-up, and economic achievements since the province was established 20 years ago.
