0,45 €: Bremerhaven Oberfeuer
1855 (Simon Loschen). Active; focal plane 34 m (111 ft); white light, 2 s on, 2 s off, synchronized with the front light. 37 m (121 ft) square brick New Gothic tower with octagonal lantern. Tower is unpainted brick, lantern painted green. On the side of the tower is a large iron bracket structure formerly used to display storm signals. A photo appears at the top of the page, and Trabas also has a good photo. This elegant lighthouse could not be more different from the front range tower. Located about 200 m (220 yd) north of the front light, near the lock that provides entry to the Neuer Haven (originally the light keepers also operated the lock).
0,55 €: Hörnum
1907. Active; focal plane 48 m (157 ft); two white flashes, separated by 2.6 s, every 9 s. 34 m (112 ft) round cast iron tower with lantern and double gallery, mounted on a 1-story concrete base. Lighthouse painted red with one white horizontal band; lantern, watch room, and galleries painted black. Adjacent keeper's house now used as a registrar's office. A beautiful and popular lighthouse, sibling of the Pellworm and Westheversand lighthouses. Until 1930 the lighthouse served as the local school, with classes on the upper floors. Today the lighthouse is a popular tourist destination and site for weddings. Trabas has a wonderful photo, Schüler has the history of the station, and a local tourist site, Hoernum.de, has an informative page on the lighthouse. Located atop a dune at the end of the road at the south end of Sylt. Island accessible by causeway from the mainland.

1. Historic Centre of Riga (Latvia)
Riga was a major centre of the Hanseatic League, deriving its prosperity in the 13th–15th centuries from the trade with central and eastern Europe. The urban fabric of its medieval centre reflects this prosperity, though most of the earliest buildings were destroyed by fire or war. Riga became an important economic centre in the 19th century, when the suburbs surrounding the medieval town were laid out, first with imposing wooden buildings in neoclassical style and then in Jugendstil. It is generally recognized that Riga has the finest collection of art nouveau buildings in Europe.
2. Historic Centres of Stralsund and Wismar (Germany)
The medieval towns of Wismar and Stralsund, on the Baltic coast of northern Germany, were major trading centres of the Hanseatic League in the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 17th and 18th centuries they became Swedish administrative and defensive centres for the German territories. They contributed to the development of the characteristic building types and techniques of Brick Gothic in the Baltic region, as exemplified in several important brick cathedrals, the Town Hall of Stralsund, and the series of houses for residential, commercial and crafts use, representing its evolution over several centuries.

On May 19, 1949, Chen Cheng, the Taiwan provincial governor and director general of Taiwan Garrison Command, declared martial law, which went into effect the next day. Martial law infringed upon human rights and impeded the development of constitutional democracy. In step with Taiwan’s economic and social development and growing understanding about human rights, and in order to promote democratic constitutional reform, on July 14, 1987, the late president Chiang Ching-kuo gave an order to end the state of martial law, which went into effect the next day. The formal lifting of martial law also represented a step forward in Taiwan’s evolution toward democracy. 2007 is the 20th anniversary of the lifting of martial law.

Republic of Korea FDC
Name: Definitive Postage Stamps: Arctous ruber (Rehder & Wilson) Nakai
Issue date: 2007 July 10th
According to the practice of periodic replacement of definitive postage stamps, the 70 KRW stamp featuring a Chinese lantern, issued on March 15, 1995, will be replaced by a stamp featuring an Arctous ruber (Rehder & Wilson) Nakai, beginning July 10, 2007.
Arctous ruber (Rehder & Wilson) Nakai, which produces small and appetizing fruits, is designated as a rare and endangered species of wild flora. It is a leaf-dropping shrub that grows in the alpine plain, and its only known habitat within South Korea is Seoraksan Mountain. In North Korea, it can be found on Baekdusan Mountain, the Gaema Plateau, etc. There are three species of genus Arctous found around the world and one of them is indigenous to Korea. Their stems creep into the underground, with 2~3 light-yellow-colored flowers blossoming between May and July. From August to September, the shrub bears a round, red-colored fruit that tastes sweet and sour.

Taiwan Orchids (II) FDC
Taiwan FDC
Name: Orchids of Taiwan (2nd Series)
Issue date: 2007 July 12th
In January of 2007 this post issued a set of definitive stamps Orchids of Taiwan, the first of this series. Now it is following up with a second set of four stamps, each showcasing one of the following four species: Paphiopedilum sp., Phalaenopsis aphrodite, Dendrobium sp. and Oncidium × hybridum.
Their designs follow:
(1) Paphiopedilum sp. (NT$1.00): A terrestrial orchid with a monopodial growth habit. Its leaves are thin and soft. It has no pseudobulb and it is relatively intolerant of drought. Mostly found in high humidity areas, it is called lady’s slipper in English, because the flower of this genus has a big swollen petal, the labellum, which is shaped like a sack or the toe of a slipper.
(2) Phalaenopsis aphrodite (NT$2.50): An epiphytic orchid with a monopodial growth habit. In bloom, its round and large white petals give it the look of a butterfly flapping its wings. It has very developed fleshy aerial roots and less-than-obvious pseudobulbs. It is relatively intolerant of droughts.
(3) Dendrobium sp. (NT$10.00): An epiphytic orchid with a sympodial growth habit. Utilizing large pseudobulbs to store water and nutrients, it is drought tolerant, rigorous and long flowering. It usually blooms in spring when it sends up sprays of delicate blooms from its nodes.
(4) Oncidium × hybridum (NT$32.00): Most species in this genus are epiphytes, although some are terrestrials, with a sympodial growth habit. It has large pseudobulbs, each with two to three green, smooth and glossy leaves. Most Oncidiums have small yellow flowers, up to a hundred or more per plant. It has a long blooming season and makes a very good cut flower.

Russia Cosmodrome FDC
Russia FDC
Name: The 50th anniversary of "Plesetsk" cosmodrome
Issue date: 2007 July 2nd
Plesetsk Cosmodrome is a Russian spaceport, located in Arkhangelsk Oblast, about 800 km north of Moscow and south of Arkhangelsk.
It was originally developed by the Soviet Union as a launch site for intercontinental ballistic missiles. Construction started in 1957 and it was declared operational for R-7 rockets in December 1959. The urban-type settlement of Plesetsk in Arkhangelsk Oblast had a railway station, essential for the transport of missile components. A new town for the support of the facility was named Mirny, Russian for "peaceful". By 1997, more than 1,500 launches to space had been made from the site, more than for any other launch facility, although the usage has declined significantly since the breakup of the Soviet Union.
The existence of Plesetsk Cosmodrome was originally kept secret, but it was discovered by British physics teacher Geoffrey Perry and his students, who carefully analyzed the orbit of the Cosmos 112 satellite in 1966 and deduced it had not been launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. After the end of the Cold War it was learned that the CIA had begun to suspect the existence of an ICBM launch site at Plesetsk in the late 1950s. The Soviet Union did not officially admit the existence of Plesetsk Cosmodrome until 1983.
Plesetsk is used especially for military satellites placed into high inclination and polar orbits since the range for falling debris is clear to the north which is largely uninhabited arctic and polar terrain. It is situated in a region of taiga, or flat terrain with boreal pine forests. Plesetsk may be compared to the U.S. Air Force's Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
The use of the cosmodrome will likely increase in the future since there are concerns with security in operating the Baikonur Cosmodrome in now-independent Kazakhstan, which also demands rent for its continued use. Plesetsk is not ideally suited for low inclination or geostationary launches because of its high latitude (as compared to the Kennedy Space Center, at around 28° north or Guiana Space Center at Kourou, the ESA facility, which is at 5° north). In spite of this, the new all-Russian Angara rocket is designed to be launched primarily from Plesetsk when it comes into service.
Currently, the Soyuz launch vehicle, Cosmos-3M, Rockot and Tsyklon are launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. The heavy Proton and Zenit rockets can only be launched from Baikonur. In May, 2007, a new ICBM, called the RS-24 has been tested and launched there, and is seen as eventually replacing the aging RS-18s and RS-20s that are the backbone of Russia's missile forces. Those missiles are known in the West as the SS-19 Stiletto and the SS-18 Satan.
