The Hangzhou Bay Bridge, stretching 36 kilometers from Haiyan, Jiaxing City, southward to Cixi, Ningbo City, was completed and put into operation on May 1, 2008. A convinient two-way passage of the Tongjiang-Sanya National Highway, to span the Hangzhou Bay, it contains six lanes with a designed in technological innovation. It is presently the world's longest cross-sea bridge, and its operation rebuilt the greater transport platform linking the southern and northern edges of the Yangtze River Delta, and played an active role in promoting the coordinated development of the regional economy and driving the integration of the Yangtze River Delta city group.
